Saturday, Feb. 17 daytime. Otis (Map 24 ) Signs of Spring are everywhere. Saw snow fleas skittering across the snow along an old logging road on February 17. It looked as if someone had used a pepper mill over the snow. B.G.

Saturday, Feb. 24 daytime. Brewer (Map 23) Male chickadees' song has changed to "fee-bee," indicating they are starting to establish territories. J.R.

Sunday, Feb. 25 morning. Garland (Map 32) Sap running strongly in maple trees during the a.m. M.J.

Sunday, Feb. 25 evening. Burlington (Map 34) Snowfall amounted to 5 inches in one hour, though neighboring towns received less or none (e.g. LaGrange). M.J.

Monday, Feb. 26, daytime. Otis (Map 24) Heard mourning doves singing their mating call for the first time this season. And have found a red-berried elder that has broken bud; but had a huge flock of redpolls dining on thistle seed over the weekend. B.G.

Wednesday, Feb. 28 10:00 am. Orono (Map 23) Male and female Mallard ducks flew into University of Maine campus to feed. F.W.
